About Alexandro

Alexandro Aguilar is a pianist, composer-arranger, educator, and lifelong student of music whose roots trace back to the small town of Payette, Idaho. What started as a childhood hobby at age 8 has since grown into a deep and multifaceted career in classical and jazz performance, composition, education, and cultural research.

A recent graduate of the University of Idaho with his bachelor's of music in piano performance with a minor in jazz studies at the University of Idaho, Alexandro brings a versatile and dynamic approach to his work. Whether performing a Beethoven piano sonata, a jazz standard, or one of his own compositions, he strives to tell compelling stories through sound and color. During his time at the University of Idaho, he’s had the privilege of studying under renowned mentors including Roger McVey, Dan Bukvich, Sam Welsh, Eneida Larti, Kate Skinner, Vern Sielert, Max Wolpert, and Ruby Fulton.

Alexandro’s musical journey is shaped not just by performance, but also by education and cultural advocacy. A proud first generation musician and student, he is passionate about amplifying Latin American voices in music and educational spaces. He has presented lectures and performances on Mexican composers and traditional Mexican music at various music education conferences, and in 2024, he traveled to Mexico City to conduct research on Manuel María Ponce through a grant-funded project with the University of Idaho’s College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences.

Alexandro performed as a soloist with the University of Idaho Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Stephen Fairbanks, in the Spring of 2025, premiering the Mexican Composer Manuel Ponce’s piano concerto “Romantico” for the state of Idaho. Showing his diverse set of musical skills, Alexandro also performed as the jazz pianist for the University of Idaho’s Jazz Band I from 2023 through 2025, performing in the Treasure Valley, the Magic Valley, and on the main stage at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.

In January of 2025, Alexandro was invited to perform and work as an instructor at the Great Falls Public Schools Jazz Workshop with University of Idaho faculty. During this workshop, he taught masterclasses, ensembles, and performed for high school music students.

His recognitions include being named the 2025 Undergraduate Presser Scholar at the Lionel Hampton School of Music, the winner of the 2025 collegiate solo competition at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the winner of the 2024-2025 University of Idaho Concerto Competition, a finalist for the 2024 Washington Idaho Symphony Concerto Competition, and an honorable mention from the 2023 Idaho MTNA State Competition.
